It’s a Liquid Metaverse

Session Description

The term “metaverse” is a compound of the Greek prefix “meta” (μετά) and the root of the noun ”universe”. This concept became very well-known and highly marketed on social media in 2021. Even if multiple studies focused on it, researchers didn’t agree upon a unique definition till now.

Since 1992, when the science fiction author Neal Stephenson first used the term in his novel “Snow Crash”, the concept of “metaverse” evolved and was slowly reshaped. If its first versions were accessed through PCs with low consistency, thus bound by time and space constraints, the newer ones differ by an accelerated development and improved accessibility as mobile devices access the metaverse from now can connect to the Internet without time or space restrictions.
Thus the term “metaverse” needs to be further clarified as it is becoming nowadays closer to a service, more scalable, accommodating numerous users. This is precisely what the current paper will be doing, drawing a link between the physical universe and the metaverse, and outlining its functioning principles through a scientific lens.
