The All-Virtual Academic Library

Session Description

In early 2022, our library services transitioned from a main virtual library with satellite brick-and-mortar libraries at each campus to an all-virtual library with fully digital collections and services, including fully remote librarians working to serve all campus locations. To fully realize this new library format, existing technologies were realigned, including the removal of the standard catalog and the planned introduction of a BIBFRAME/Linked Data option as part of our resource discovery platform. This poster presentation will benefit librarians, faculty, and administrators who may be planning for or wish to integrate virtual library services into their campus communities, and will address areas of virtual reference service (including the creation of a virtual reference desk with options for reference service by email, chat, and video), liquidation of print collections, transformation of physical library spaces to campus learning centers, leveraging of our discovery layer as a main resource discovery tool, library homepage and LibGuide redesign, realignment of library collection development activities, the introduction faculty development workshops, and planned responses to student surveys.
