2D Metaverse Technology in Language Learning: A Systematic Literature Review

Session Description

2D Metaverse technology can be used for distance education by transforming traditional educational practices by offering immersive and interactive learning experiences. 2D Metaverse technology is increasingly being used in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). However, few studies combine both language education and 2D Metaverse technology. This study is a systematic literature review that aims to identify emerging use of 2D Metaverse for distance education and language learning. The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) protocol was used as a formal systematic review guideline for data collection. Literature was obtained from research studies from 2019–2024. Finally, the results present recommendations from the gaps in the literature for directions for future research study.
