Generative AI in Education: research among MBA in Educational Leadership students and alumni

Session Description

Following my work on online projects aimed at educational equity during the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise of emerging technologies made me wonder whether Generative AI (GenAI) could help make education more equitable and impactful. When the opportunity arose to conduct research as a part of the Curriculum Design and Implementation Course at MBA in Educational Leadership (MEL) program under Dr. Curcher’s supervision at Tampere University of Applied Sciences in Finland, I seized it.

Twenty-five educators participated in the survey and three educators were interviewed for this mixed-method research. These educators are located all over the world, bringing diverse perspectives. Some of the questions covered in the research include: Does GenAI have the potential to streamline educators’ tasks, resulting in positive impacts on education as a whole? What do educators think about GenAI? How do they apply it, and what are the results?

Highlighting real-life applications of GenAI in education can spark meaningful conversations among all stakeholders, addressing various topics such as GenAI implementation, training and support, its impact on educators and teaching practices, and ethical considerations.
The main goal of this session is to share fresh data and facilitate discussion, exchanging best practices. By highlighting the role of GenAI in education, we aim to promote cooperation for a better future. Knowledge and insights gained can serve as a starting point for discussions within educational institutions and among families and friends, raising awareness and addressing pressing issues stemming from the rapid development of GenAI.
